YANIV BEKERMAN

The world, held still long enough to see it.

Every frame is hours of waiting: for the light, the tide, the bear to look up. Made in the field, from Alaskan rivers to desert canyons, and printed to last a lifetime.

Proof the Earth Turns, Mt. McLoughlin, Oregon: star trails circling the night sky over Mt. McLoughlin and its reflection in the lake, photograph by Yaniv Bekerman
Proof the Earth Turns · Mt. McLoughlin, Oregon

Midnight. The shutter opens.

The Earth turns fifteen degrees an hour. You can't feel it.

Nothing moves but the sky. The mountain holds perfectly still.

About

I wait in the dark so you don't have to.

I'm Yaniv Bekerman, a landscape, night and wildlife photographer. I've been making photographs since 2004, and somewhere along the way I stopped chasing light and started waiting for it: for the Milky Way over the Pacific, for a bear to lift its head in an Alaskan river, for the last minute of sun on a desert canyon.

A long exposure compresses time the way memory does. Minutes of moving water become silk. Hours of turning sky become arcs of light. The work is made in the field, wherever the light is worth the wait.

My work is exhibited and collected at the Del Mar fine art fairs in California, and every print is produced in an edition of 55: face-mounted acrylic, signed, and never reprinted.
